What We Do

Every Call to Safety advocate is trained to provide sexual assault advocacy on the crisis line. Our advocates offer emotional support, education, referrals to other agencies, information about support groups and help survivors understand their medical and reporting options. Advocates also provide in-person medical advocacy to individuals who have experienced sexual assault.

How to Access

To access crisis line services, support groups, on-going follow up or in-person advocacy call the crisis line at any time: 1.888.235.5333.

What is follow-up advocacy?

This is when one of our Direct Service Advocates offers support over time with things like finding housing or applying for public assistance, helping to navigate through options, accessing the criminal justice system, and healing from violence. Each Direct Service Advocate can support any survivor of domestic or sexual violence, but also has specialized knowledge of serving specific populations of survivors such as those experiencing houselessness, survivors with intellectual and/or developmental disabilities, and sex workers.

Shelter in the Portland Metro Area

Call to Safety contacts domestic violence shelters in and around Portland at 9:00 am every day to check shelter availability. Shelter space is subject to change. If space is available, please contact the shelter directly to do a phone screen.

This is only a short list of shelters in and around the Portland area. Contact a Call to Safety advocate at 1.888.235.5333 if you are looking for shelter outside of the counties listed.

If you are a shelter and need to update information regarding your shelter, please contact Call to Safety at 1.888.235.5333.

Safety & Stabilization Assessments (SSAs)

A Safety and Stabilization Assessment (SSA) is required for you to access domestic violence shelter in Multnomah County. An SSA involves a short pre-screen, then a longer in-person assessment with a trained advocate regarding your experience with violence, your current circumstances, and your plans for the future. Completing an SSA helps the advocate match you with housing resources that may be available, like rental assistance, emergency domestic violence shelter and other housing options. To learn more about an SSA or to complete a pre-screen, reach out to a Call to Safety advocate by calling the crisis line.

What We Do

Call to Safety provides free and confidential support groups throughout the year.  We offer groups for adult survivors of childhood trauma and groups for survivors who experienced sexual assault in adulthood. Support groups are open to people of all genders. Groups are between 8 and 10 weeks long and are usually held in the evenings or on a weekend.

How to Access

We continually screen for our support groups. Call the crisis line to learn more about our support groups or to get on the wait-list for a future support group.

“This group was helpful beyond words! Especially emotionally. It was very supportive and everyone was treated with such respect and honor. It was so helpful to be heard. I think it was an excellent step towards healing because the group felt so safe the entire time. This was the best support group I’ve ever attended. Thank you!”

“Now, it’s the one number that no matter where I’m at in my life, I know I can call and feel support and find direction. I’ll never forget it or what Call to Safety has done for me.”
