The Call to Safety Board of Directors is recruiting for new board members interested in serving their community with the shared belief that everyone deserves a life free of domestic and sexual violence. The Board of Directors is responsible to the membership of Call to Safety for the sound fiscal and program management of the agency. As an ambassador to the community, the Board of Directors strives to support and promote Call to Safety’s mission to end domestic and sexual violence by providing confidential support services and education to empower our community. Board Directors are elected throughout the year by the Call to Safety membership. We ask for an initial commitment of two years, followed by annual terms. The call to Safety board is a working board. Directors serve on a board committee and are expected to donate about 8-10 hours of time per month, inclusive of monthly board meetings.
Role Description:
Responsibilities of the Board of Directors
1. Monitor the agency’s fiscal and program operations to ensure compliance with government statues and binding agreements
2. Select, work with, and evaluate the Executive Director who oversees day-to-day operations.
3. Provide active support for the fundraising and other resource development activities of the organization.
4. Participate in long-range strategic planning for the agency.
5. Evaluate and develop policies and procedures governing the agency.
6. Uphold the By-laws, policies, and philosophy of Call to Safety as established by the membership.
Responsibilities of Individual Directors
1. Serve as an ambassador of Call to Safety, by promoting the organization’s name, image, and mission throughout the community.
2. Commit 8-10 hours per month to Board-related activities, including Board and committee meetings, special events, and fundraising activities.
3. Actively participate in and attend all board meetings and membership in at least one committee or work group per year.
4. Develop and maintain a working knowledge of the agency, in particular, services provided to the community.
5. Complete all required Core Advocacy Training (CAT) trainings over the course of the first year of membership with Call to Safety Board of Directors while actively seeking additional opportunities to further one’s professional board development.
6. Bring personal and professional training, skills, and experience to all board decisions, and help mentor and develop leadership opportunities for Call to Safety membership.
7. Be a supporting member of the organization through financial and in-kind donations; and by supporting Call to Safety’s annual fundraising event through ticket sales and assisting with corporate sponsorship solicitation.
Board of Directors meetings are held the third Thursday of the month from 6:00-8:00 pm via Zoom. There are no meetings in July or December.
